Children

At Crossgate we are passionate about ministering to children. We desire to see them grow in their love of the Lord and become young leaders in the body of Christ. We assure that each child will feel loved and acceptance here in our Children’s Ministry.

Sunday Morning

Sunday School @ 9:30

• PreK-2nd grade class
• 4th-6th grade class
* Nursery is available at this time for children 3 year old and younger.

Children’s Church

Children attend the worship service with their parents until musical worship has ended and the pastor calls for children to be dismissed. Classes are available for two ages groups: PreK–2nd grade and 3rd-6th grade. These groups are going through the Answers in Genesis curriculum, a fun, exciting program that teaches kids creation and earth science according to the Bible (including the study of dinosaurs!).

Youth

Our youth are a group of wonderful, godly teens who are hungry to study God’s word and eager to learn how to defend their faith. Our desire is to see the group grow and continue to minister with their amazing talents. The youth ministry at Crossgate is called Elevate.

Sunday Morning

Sunday School @ 9:30 [upstairs youth room]

Currently, the youth are studying the Bible and learning how to defend and share their faith. Topics like these are typically discussed: How does the science I learn in school compare to the Bible?, How do I share the gospel in a compelling way?, What does the Bible say about homosexuality?, Why do bad things happen to good people?, & Is Jesus the only way to heaven?

Wednesday Nights

Youth Group @ 7:00 [in the gym]

All youth meetings are held in a relaxed, comfortable, and safe environment where questions, thoughts, and discussion are encouraged. New guests are welcomed with warmth and treated like a part of the family! These nights focus more on our personal walks with Christ where we discuss different issues that arise in life. It is not uncommon to talk about such topics as, How do we have joy in the Lord through the good and bad times?, What is my identity in Christ?, How do I handle temptation?, & What does the Bible say about relationships?

* Most of the youth are also part of Elevations Drama Team, where you can find more information below.

Adult

We believe it is vital for adults to be spiritually mature in their faith in order to teach the younger generation what it looks like to walk in right relationship with Christ. Here at Crossgate, we offer many exciting options for adults to not only be spiritually fed, but also to grow in community with one another.

Drama

Elevations Drama uses a unique and powerful way to reach people in different settings. The performances they portray are Biblical truths and incorporate many various styles. While the majority of the performances are done at church events, Elevations takes every opportunity to go into Robert, Hammond and the surrounding community, sharing their message to groups and organizations.

Elevations has participated in the CIA Camp (Compassion In Action) with performances in the camp worship service, area nursing homes and some underprivileged neighborhoods. The group was able to spend time with residents and pray and witness to individuals that would not normally be found in a church environment. Another recent trip was to the local mall to pass out gospel tracts and also included a performance set up as a “flash mob.”

* Anyone is welcome to join Elevations Drama team. If you are interested, contact Sarah Cranfield for details.

Counseling Ministries

Thirty-five years ago, Pastor Louis Husser saw the need for pastors to be equipped to address the emotional and spiritual challenges people face. This was at a time when Dr. James Dobson was founding Focus on the Family. At this time, seminaries and Christian authors began teaching and publishing the importance of equipping pastors to counsel with a theological approach. Pastor Louis began to successfully use this method in his counseling sessions.

Today, many secular psychologists ignore or dismiss the spiritual aspects of emotional well-being. Pastor Louis believes that the journey of healing begins with identifying the root cause of the problem and then applying a Biblically based, theologically sound approach to healing.

Crossgate member Rudy Troyer holds a Masters in Social Work and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). He leads the Recovery Center Of Baton Rouge. This practice deals largely with Christian counseling, family therapy, and addiction recovery.
